Minimal Viable Training Protocols

In the commercial world, a Minimal Viable Product " has just those core features that allow the product to be deployed, and no more" - Basically what this is saying is that the product functions and no more, and there are no bells and whistles. There is maximum output with minimum input, if this makes sense.

If we apply this philosophy to training for GAA sports, wouldn't it be nice to have a set of minimal viable training protocols.

Lets take a few examples -

Want to increase VO2 Max - Perform the Following - Run 1.5 miles as fast as you can 3 times with 5 minutes break between sets - Do this twice per week

Want to increase overall Strength - Perform 5 Sets of 3 Rep Max Deadlifts with 2 minute break between sets and do 5 sets of Max pull ups with 1 minute break between sets

Want to increase linear Speed - Perform 10 sets of 20 M Sprints with 1 min break between sets

Want to increase X... then do Y

Etc

etc

I suppose the real question I am asking is how much of our training is being wasted, where you're not getting the most bang for your buck.

A whole industry has been built up, where training has become "complicated", and we know from history, making the general public think they are dumb, is the easiest way to extract large amounts of money from them. This is alright in a professional setting, but unsustainable in an amateur one.

I know I need to be stronger, but tell how strong is strong enough, and how I can get there in the least amount of steps. After that, lets play ball.
